Volunteers

Volunteers – Who Are They & What Do They Do?

There is not a good deed done on earth without the help of a faithful volunteer. The Mercer County Medical Society if fortunate to have many.

Parvaiz Malik, MD, Chairman of Relief Efforts for the Islamic Medical Society of North American, has collected and sent jets filled with surgical supplies. He has volunteered as a surgeon operating for weeks at a time after the tsunami disaster and the earthquake that has claimed the lives of 50,000 in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Dr. Malik is a member of the MCMS Board of Trustees.

Marie Potter is our “Chief Resident Volunteer” who helps answer calls during problem times. Politically active her entire life she has great knowledge, common sense and contacts. Marie, a retired taxation director, is a great recruiter and motivator. If she knows of someone who should be more active in their daily lives she enlists their services for the Society. That’s how Mary Brennen joined our volunteers. Mary, a retired executive secretary in the NJ Governor’s Office, has recorded our Society member updates in our register because of for her beautiful penmanship.

Volunteers are willing to do mundane jobs like stuffing and addressing envelopes and filing. But they are prepared to help in emergencies. When HIP went bankrupt and women where left in the cold with no OB/GYN volunteers came to the office for days helping to give direction to frightened women. Then came 911 and they were united with us.

We also have been blessed with the help of students at our picnics, board meetings and CME seminars. Enlisted from junior high school days through college were Mark, John and Will Wittenborn, Jason and Ryan McGhee, Amy Novik and Dara and Stacy Sparella.

Our hearts are full with gratitude for their dedication to the Society and the community.
